Trent Development and W.G. Clark Construction began work in the spring of 2021 on a half-block apartment venture dubbed Tapestry. The six-story, 268-unit project replaced the old Seattle Curtain building at 104 12th Ave., on the corner of East Yesler Way.

Yesterday the city issued a temporary certificate of occupancy for the apartments. With the slogan “Weave your way into Tapestry,” the marketing website is now live. Monthly rents are listed in a range from $1,920 for a studio with 550 square feet to a two-bedroom with 1,089 square feet, which goes for $3,860.

Up to two months of free rent is now being offered for certain units. Per the city’s multifamily property tax exemption, 56 units will be affordable to households earning in a range from 65% to 85% of area median income.

Clark Barnes designed the project. The Tapestry team also included financial partners Bridge Investment Group and Hatteras Sky; Karen Kiest Landscape Architects; Davido Consulting Group, civil engineer; Geotech Consultants, geotechnical; Blanton Turner, property manager; and Bonfire, the art curator.

Individual artist contributing to Tapestry include Jeffrey Veregge, Jite Agbro, Juan Alonzo-Rodriguez, Lawrence Pitre, June Sekiguchi, Romson Regarde Bustillo, Lisa Myers Bulmash, Jonathan Clarren, Marita Dingus and the Pacific Northwest African American Quilters.

Tapestry also includes about 12,000 square feet for retail, restaurant or commercial use. JSH Properties is the broker, with Alex Vlaski and Aaron Bennett leading that effort. Marketing materials suggest that at least one bay, facing Yesler, has been claimed.

The project also includes about 119 underground parking stalls, some with EV charging, plus 84 bike stalls. The First Hill streetcar also runs past on Yesler.

Amenities include a roof deck with firepits and kitchen areas; club room and game room; gym with climbing wall; coworking lounge and library; and dog washing station.

Apartments feature in-unit washer/dyers, quartz kitchen countertops and stainless steel appliances. Some also have small balconies.
